ISRO released the pictures and said, between 27 December 2022 and 8 January 2023, a landslide of 5.4 cm has been recorded. Between April 2022 and November 2022, Joshimath saw a slow decline of 9 cm. The NSRC said last week that rapid subsidence had started between December and the first week of January.
Satellite images show that subsidence zone is located in Central Joshimath including Army Helipad and Narsingh Temple. The highest depression is located at an altitude of 2,180 meters near the Joshimath-Auli road. Please tell that in 2022, between April and November, a slow subsidence of 8.9 cm was recorded in Joshimath.
Joshimath has been declared as landslide area by the Chamoli district administration. Cracks have been observed in hundreds of houses and buildings in the last few days. The situation has become such that hundreds of families were shifted from Joshimath to safer places. Meanwhile, the state government has announced an interim relief package of Rs 1.5 lakh and is working on a rehabilitation package.

In Joshimath, the work of demolishing two hotels was started on Thursday (January 12), but due to bad weather, the demolition had to be stopped midway. Earlier, the demolition was put on hold for a few days due to protests by the local people and residents. The administration has told that only the hotels 'Malari Inn' and 'Mount View' will be demolished in Joshimath.
Who is responsible for the landslide?
Let us tell you that several expert teams have been deployed to analyze the landslide in Joshimath. However, the local people have blamed the tunneling work for the NTPC hydroelectric project. On the other hand, NTPC issued a statement claiming that their tunnel is not passing under Joshimath.
