The incident is reported to have occurred on September 15th. Vijay Rajbhar, a businessman from the Jalalpur police station area, alleged that he was forcibly taken, beaten, and threatened and demanded money. It is alleged that approximately ₹2.15 lakh was transferred to various accounts via UPI using his mobile phone and money was withdrawn from his ATM. A case was registered in the Jalalpur police station.
During the investigation, the role of Sureri police station in-charge, Divya Prakash Singh, also came to light. It is alleged that after the incident came to light, he fled the station without informing higher authorities and left his CUG number at the station. He was subsequently suspended. Police have now announced a reward for his arrest.
Sankeet Singh and Vikas Singh, two brothers named in the case, surrendered in court on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Varanasi Range DIG Vaibhav Krishna has formed an SIT to conduct a high-level investigation into the entire matter. According to the police, physical and technical evidence related to the case is being examined.
According to the police, action has been taken against two policemen and other accused in this case. The police are now focused on arresting the absconding suspended station head, Divya Prakash Singh. The investigation is ongoing.
