Who was Anil Dujana: Western UP's 'Chhota Shakeel' killed in police encounter

Gangster Anil Dujana who was killed in a UP police encounter on Thursday, had over 60 criminal cases, including 18 cases of murder against him. Dujana, whose terror spread across Gautam Budh Nagar, Ghaziabad, Delhi-NCR and Haryana, was known as the 'Chhota Shakeel' of western Uttar Pradesh.

By India Today Web Desk: Notorious gangster Anil Dujana was killed in an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Police in Meerut on Thursday (May 4). With over 60 criminal cases, including 18 murders, against him, Dujana sent shivers down the spine of people across Gautam Budh Nagar, Ghaziabad, Delhi-NCR and Haryana. Dujana was released from Tihar Jail on April 10 and right away began threatening people who had testified against him.

ADG Special Task Force (STF) Amitabh Yash on Thursday gave the news that Dujana was killed in an encounter. A resident of the Dujana village in the Dadri area of Greater Noida, the gangster's real name was Anil Nagar.

DUJANA WAS AMONG UP's TOP 65 GANGSTERS

Anil Dujana wasn't an ordinary gangster. He was on the radar of UP police for a long time and had his network spread across entire western Uttar Pradesh, especially areas like Gautam Buddh Nagar, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Delhi-NCR and Haryana. He was also termed the "Chota Shakeel" of western Uttar Pradesh.

Soon after his release from Tihar jail last month, Dujana was booked by the Noida police. Two FIRs were registered against him for threatening people, including a businessman, for testifying against him in court. Police had been on the lookout for him ever since he was out and threatening people.

Dozens of cases had been registered against him in Greater Noida's Badalpur police station for crimes, including murder, attempt to murder, dacoity, robbery, extortion, threatening to kill and rebellion, under the Goonda Act, Gangster Act and NSA. He was also included in the list of top 65 gangsters of UP.

The story of Dujana's rise in the world of crime remains incomplete without the mention of his association with the Bhati gang.

Sundar Bhati and Narendra Bhati were prominent dons of the Bhati gang in the early 2000s. However, after Narendra defeated Sundar in a district panchayat election, their relationship soured. This eventually led to Sundar killing Narendra in 2004.

After Naresh Bhati's murder, his brother Randeep Bhati and nephew Amit Kasana got gangster Anil Dujana into their fold to avenge their sibling's murder. During the wedding of Sunder Bhati's brother-in-law in November 2011, the three fired from an AK-47, resulting in the death of three people in Sahibabad. However, Sundar Bhati managed to escape.

Later, the Sundar Bhati gang fired at Anil Dujana's house, in which his brother Jai Bhagwan was killed.

Anil Dujana was earlier close to gangster Naresh Bhati, and managed the gang after his murder by Sundar Bhati. Upon taking control of the gang, Anil Dujana was involved in cases of murder, extortion, robbery and land-grabbing.

Anil Dujana was arrested in January 2012 in a 2011 triple murder case, after which he started running a gang from jail with gangsters Randeep Bhati and Amit Kasana's help.
