According to Circle Officer (City) Neeraj Semwal, the six deceased-three boys and three girls, all under 25 years of age-died instantly. A seventh passenger, identified as 25-year-old Siddhesh Agrawal, survived but is in critical condition at Synergy Hospital.
Five of those who died were residents of Dehradun, while one was from Chamba. Reports suggest the group had gone out for a late-night drive before the accident.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who was on a trip to Uttarkashi and Rudraprayag, expressed his grief over the incident, describing it as "heart-rending", news agency PTI reported.
"The news of the death of six youths in a road accident in Dehradun is extremely heart-rending. I pray to God to grant the departed souls a place at his sacred feet and give strength to the bereaved families to bear the immense pain," he said.
The cause of the accident is yet to be determined, and authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the area.
Local auto driver Sunil, who has worked on this route for over 15 years, noted that speeding is common on this stretch and suggested that barricades be installed to improve safety.
The police have stated that the investigation is ongoing.
