Andhra Pradesh: A case has come to light from Andhra Pradesh that will shock you. A 15-year-old minor Dalit girl, who is now eight months pregnant, is admitted to a hospital in the state. Looking at her condition, the doctors and the administration have decided that she will be kept in the hospital till delivery. Her abortion is no longer possible and sending her back to the village may also prove dangerous.
This case is not just about sexual violence, but also a reflection of caste discrimination, social inequality and the failure of the government system. The victim belongs to the Dalit (Madiga) community. She was in class VIII when her life was destroyed. After the death of her father, her mother brought her to another village. A single mother and financial constraints made the girl helpless and 14 boys and men from the upper society of the village started exploiting her.
Blackmailed, then continued to be exploited for 2 years
According to the police, two of the accused first took a photo of the girl and threatened to post it on social media. After this, they raped her and also made a video. The other accused used this video and photo to exploit the victim for 2 years. When the girl became pregnant, her mother complained to the police in the first week of June.
17 accused arrested, including three minors
So far, the police have arrested 17 people in the case, including 14 accused of rape and three who remained silent despite knowing everything, including one of her classmate. Three of the 17 accused are minors and the rest are between the ages of 18 and 51.
Superintendent of Police V. Ratna said that the school teachers also did not report the girl's absence, even though she was in class 10. Apart from this, the village women police, Anganwadi workers and ASHA workers, who regularly go door to door to check, also did not pay any attention.
After delivery, she will be kept in a government women's home.
The girl is currently undergoing counselling and is receiving full medical care. The police said that after delivery, the mother and the child will be shifted to a government women's home. It is risky to send her out of the hospital now as the accused in jail can pressurise her to withdraw the case by any means. A blood test at the hospital has revealed that the girl is anemic (blood deficiency) and also suffering from depression. Doctors are paying close attention to her physical and mental health.
