In Gaurikund, the work of removing encroachment on the roadside has been started. Many shops have been demolished. Along with this, goods have been evacuated from many shops. Please tell that 23 people died in the Gaurikund tragedy.
Actually, the Sonprayag-Gaurikund road has become extremely narrow after the 2013 disaster. Hardly one vehicle can move here at a time. Due to this, dhabas have been made at very dangerous places on the roadside. Because of this, the situation of jam persists. Some shops were affected by the disaster in Gaurikund. Those shops were built on the very danger zone.
Most of the shops were built by encroachment
More than five shops were demolished, which were built by encroaching on the extremely dangerous zone just above the Mandakini river. Instructions have been given to vacate the goods of other shops which have been set up in the surrounding areas and they will also be demolished as soon as the shops are vacated. There are more than 20 such shops which have been built by encroachment and now they will be demolished.
livelihood crisis on shopkeepers
On the other hand, those traders whose temporary dhabas have been bulldozed say that action has been taken without informing them. They were not even given a chance to remove the goods and their goods worth lakhs of rupees were also thrown away. Now the crisis of livelihood has also deepened in front of them. Goods worth lakhs of rupees were filled inside his shop. Where will they go after vacating the shop with the goods?
Encroached shops will be removed
Deputy District Magistrate Jitendra Verma told that the shops which were demolished were given time to remove the goods. Even before the start of the yatra, encroachments were asked to be removed. But, these people did not agree. All the shops which have been opened by encroaching on the danger zones on the roadside will be removed.
