President Draupadi Murmu conferred the Padma Bhushan on eminent industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday. A total of 106 personalities were honored with the Padma Awards at the ceremony. With receiving this honour, Kumar Mangalam has become the fourth person in the Birla family to receive the Padma Award.
The country's well-known industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla was awarded the Padma Bhushan for his remarkable contribution in the field of trade and industry. President Draupadi Murmu honored Birla at a dignified ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday. A total of 106 personalities were honored with the Padma Awards at the ceremony.
Kumar Mangalam Birla has become the fourth person in the Birla family to receive the Padma Award after receiving this honour. Earlier, his mother Rajshree Birla was honored with the Padma Bhushan Award. Dada Basant Kumar Birla also received the Padma Bhushan Award. At the same time, his great-grandfather Ghanshyam Das Birla was honored with the Padma Vibhushan Award.
Receiving this award, Kumar Mangalam Birla said that the spirit of nation building and trusteeship has guided my family for generations. It is a pleasure to receive this honour. I thank President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this honor. I am receiving this award on behalf of my 1 lakh 40 thousand colleagues from 36 countries. This award recognizes the role played by the Aditya Birla Group in enriching lives.
Business is spread in 36 countries
The way Kumar Mangalam Birla expanded it after taking charge of the Birla Group at the age of just 28, is an example. Kumar Mangalam Birla, who holds an MBA degree from London Business School, is a Chartered Accountant. He is the chairman of Aditya Birla Group whose business is spread across 36 countries in six continents. This group is giving employment to about 140,000 people.
Kumar Mangalam Birla is the chairman of the board of all major group companies including Hindalco Industries, Grasim Industries, UltraTech Cement, Aditya Birla Fashion & Retail and Aditya Birla Capital. Kumar Mangalam Birla is at number 9 in the Hurun Rich List released on Wednesday itself.
Took command of the group in 1995
Kumar Mangalam Birla was born on June 14, 1967. He took over the reins of the group in 1995 after the death of his father, Aditya Vikram Birla. Under his leadership, Aditya Birla Group made about 40 companies from India and abroad a part of the group. With his ability and hard work, he presented an example by taking the turnover of Aditya Birla Group to $60 billion.
