A case has been registered against BJP MLA Arvind Bellad and two others for allegedly threatening an RTI applicant to withdraw his plea.
An FIR was registered against BJP MLA and Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, Arvind Bellad, and two others for threatening an RTI applicant who sought information from the Karnataka State Slum Development Board (KSSDB).
Others named in the FIR are Deputy Mayor of Hubballi Dharwad Municipal Corporation, Satish Hangal, and another accused, Laxman Ramana Bhuvi.
According to the case details, the complainant, Parashuram Ashok Davangere, filed an RTI application seeking details of the KSSDB allegedly handing over title deeds of vacant lands belonging to SC/STs in the Anand Nagar area of the municipality to Slum Development Board beneficiaries. He claimed that this alleged transaction was 'illegal'.
Parashuram, a 37-year-old auto driver, also moved the court with a complaint that Laxman Ramana Bhovi, with the support of Bellad and Hangal, threatened him to withdraw his RTI application.
An FIR has been registered against all three under Section 504 (Offenses against public tranquility and peace), Section 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation), and Section 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
However, MLA Bellad told India Today that he wasn't aware of these developments nor of the complainant, Parashuram.
