A new ray of hope has appeared amid the long-running bloody conflict in the Middle East.

Gaza: A new ray of hope has appeared amid the long-running bloody conflict in the Middle East. The Palestinian organization Hamas has approved the ceasefire proposal presented under US mediation. This proposal includes stopping the conflict for 70 days and releasing 10 Israeli hostages. Now all eyes are on Israel, which has not yet given any official response to this.
This proposal was handed over to Hamas by US Representative Steve Witkoff. According to Reuters, the proposal also mentions that Israel will have to release hundreds of Palestinian prisoners, many of whom have been in jail for years.
Another attempt at a ceasefire
The last ceasefire between Hamas and Israel was implemented on 19 January 2025, which was broken by Israel through missile attacks on 18 March. Since then, the war in the Gaza Strip has flared up once again and thousands of people have lost their lives so far.
The current situation in Gaza: A picture of ruin
According to the Gaza Media Office, the Israeli army has established control over about 77% of Gaza. Reports also claim that about 70% of Gaza's infrastructure has been destroyed, and 85% of the Palestinian population, i.e. about 19 lakh people, have become homeless.
Over the past week, Israeli attacks have killed more than 500 people, including a large number of women and children. The war began on 7 October 2023, and since then more than 55,000 Palestinian civilians have been killed.
Genocide versus 'target operation'
The local administration of Gaza has accused Israel of genocide and ethnic cleansing. They claim that the aim of the Israeli army is to evacuate Gaza. In response, Israel completely rejected these allegations and said that its military action is only a targeted operation against Hamas. According to the Israeli army, Hamas is setting up military structures in civilian areas, due to which civilian casualties are increasing.
The war continues until Hamas is destroyed
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made it clear that the military operation will continue until Hamas is completely eliminated. He also said that after the war, the Israeli army will have full control over Gaza and humanitarian aid distribution will also be done under its supervision.
Global response: Concern and warning
The United Nations, UNICEF and the World Food Programme (WFP) have expressed grave concern about the deepening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. A recent report says that 96% of children in Gaza are malnourished and the region is at risk of famine.
