Kurnool Bus Fire Tragedy: A tragic road accident in Andhra Pradesh's Kurnool district early Friday morning shocked the entire state. A private passenger bus traveling from Hyderabad to Bengaluru met with an accident near Chinnatekkuru village (Kallur Mandal). It is reported that the bus collided with a motorcycle, which then caught fire and was completely destroyed. Around 25 passengers are feared dead in the accident, while several others suffered serious burns.
How did the accident happen?
The incident reportedly occurred around 3 a.m. Friday morning, when heavy rain was falling in the area and the road was extremely slippery. The speeding bus collided with an oncoming bike. The impact was so powerful that the bike became trapped under the bus and exploded. Within seconds, flames spread throughout the bus.
There were about 40 passengers on the bus at the time. As soon as the fire broke out, panic gripped the passengers. Many tried to escape by breaking windows or using emergency exits. Ten to twelve passengers managed to escape, but the rest were trapped in the flames.
Quick response from local people and administration
As soon as the accident occurred, nearby villagers rushed to the scene and began rescue operations. They immediately informed the police and fire brigade. However, by the time fire engines arrived, the bus was completely engulfed in flames. The horror of the incident can be gauged from the fact that many of the bodies were so charred that identification was difficult. The injured were admitted to the government hospital in Kurnool, where they are undergoing treatment. Doctors stated that the condition of some of the injured is extremely critical.
Police engaged in investigation
Kurnool Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patil said that upon receiving information about the incident, an FSL team arrived at the scene and an investigation has been launched. The bus's additional driver has been detained, while the main driver from the travel company has been called for questioning. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the bus was speeding and visibility was poor due to rain, which prevented the driver from seeing the bike in time.
CM N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed grief over the accident.
State Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep grief over the accident. He spoke with the Chief Secretary and the district administration and directed them to expedite relief and rescue operations. The Chief Minister announced all possible financial assistance to the families of the deceased and the injured.
