Indian Army Electric Bike: The Indian Army is about to make a major change in its field operations. The Army is preparing to replace older petrol bikes with Silent Scout electric two-wheelers. A special tender for this purpose was issued in March 2026. The aim is to make the Army's movement and communication more secure and modern. This project will procure electric motorcycles and scooters specifically designed for military use. A separate tender is also for a "battery-operated two-wheeled messenger," which will allow soldiers to silently deliver messages without the use of radio.
The most significant feature of these bikes is their near-silence. Their sound willbe inaudible at a distance of approximately 10 meters, allowing soldiers to advance without the enemy noticing. The Army plans to deploy them in the mountainous terrain of Assam and the desert regions of Rajasthan. Silent movement in such areas offers a significant advantage.
What will it include? These electric bikes will be specially designed to be robust enough to operate in difficult conditions. They will be able to easily carry a soldier (weighing approximately 120 kg) and his or her equipment. Another unique feature is that these bikes will also function as mobile power banks. Soldiers will be able to charge night vision devices, communication systems, and other equipment using their batteries.
Several Indian companies are in the running for the tender. Royal Enfield, with its electric 'Flying Flea' bike, TVS Motor Company, with its eFX concept, and Hero MotoCorp, with its Vida platform, are developing models tailored to the military's needs.
This change isn't just about introducing new bikes. It signals a major shift in the army's thinking. Now, in battle, quiet, low-heat, and multi-use electric platforms are being prioritized over bikes with loud, hot engines. In the future, these 'Silent Scout' bikes could completely transform border surveillance and operations.
