A Mumbai woman was arrested for blackmailing her ex-lover with a fake rape case and demanding Rs 1 crore. Police say she conspired with bank staff to hack his data and threaten him using private information.

Mumbai: The Mumbai Police have arrested a woman for allegedly threatening her former partner with a false rape case and demanding a Rs 1 crore extortion sum to keep quiet. The accused, identified as Dolly Kotak, works with a private bank and was taken into custody by the Charkop police. Several others, including employees of major banks, have also been named in the case.
According to police officials, the incident unfolded when Dolly Kotak, in collaboration with others, began threatening her ex-boyfriend, also a private bank employee, to either pay Rs 1 crore or face a fabricated rape charge. She allegedly sent him text messages, warning him to “pay up or rot in jail.” She further threatened that if he approached the police, she would defame him, his wife, and his sister.
The situation escalated when Dolly allegedly sent emails to the victim’s manager, accusing him of leaking confidential company data. As a result, the man was fired from his job.
Conspiracy Involving Bank Employees
Investigations revealed a deeper conspiracy. According to police, Dolly, along with three other bank employees, Harsh Srivastava (HDFC Bank), Anant Ruiya, and Jayesh Gaikwad (ICICI Bank), hacked into the victim’s phone and email. They accessed his online banking details, GPS location, private messages and photos, and used this personal information to blackmail him.
In a disturbing twist, Dolly had already got the man arrested on charges of data theft and only later offered to get him released from jail, if he paid her the demanded sum.
Police said Dolly even arranged a meeting through a lawyer, during which she repeated her threats and demand for money.
Following immense mental harassment, the victim approached the Borivali Magistrate Court, which ordered a police investigation. A case has since been registered under Section 175(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against four named and two unnamed individuals.
The key accused, Dolly Kotak, has also been linked to another extortion case filed at DB Marg police station. Her brother, Sagar Kotak, is currently out on bail in a POCSO case involving the abduction and rape of a 17-year-old girl, as per Malvani police station records.
Bank Staff Confess to Plot
Upon sustained questioning, the three bank employees reportedly confessed to their involvement and revealed that Dolly was the mastermind behind the plot. All six accused face serious charges under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act, including criminal conspiracy, data theft, and attempt to extort.
The Charkop police are currently on the lookout for the remaining accused, and further investigation is underway.
