Sidhu raised questions on democracy Immediately after being released from Patiala jail, Navjot Singh Sidhu said that 'there is no such thing as democracy right now. A conspiracy is being hatched to bring President's rule in Punjab, minorities are being targeted. If there is an attempt to weaken Punjab, it will become weak.

After being released from Patiala jail, Sidhu also said that 'I consider the constitution as my book, it is becoming a dictator. The institutions which were the strength of the constitution, have become slaves today. I do not panic, I am not afraid of death because whatever I do, I am doing it for the next generation of Punjab.

Sidhu was sentenced to 1 year by the Supreme Court. The former Punjab Congress chief surrendered in a Patiala court, after which he was sent to jail on May 20 last year. The Supreme Court sentenced him to one year's rigorous imprisonment.

The apex court had said in its order that any sympathy shown for awarding inadequate punishment would further damage the justice system and would adversely affect public confidence in the efficacy of the law. Gurnam Singh, an elderly man of 65 years was killed in this incident. Presently Sidhu has been released from jail and as soon as he came out of jail, he was seen in an aggressive manner.
