Even today, most of the farmers of the country are dependent on rain water. Sometimes there is a danger of crop failure due to sudden heavy rains, sometimes due to drought or any other natural calamity. Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) has been started to save farmers from financial losses due to these uncertainties.

It seems that

the farmer gets the facility of getting his crop insured by paying very little money under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. Under insurance coverage, if the insured crop is destroyed, then the insurance company is responsible for its full compensation. Food crops (cereals, millets and pulses), oilseeds and annual commercial/annual horticultural crops are covered under this insurance. Under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, farmers have to pay less premium. The amount of insurance premium on the farmers is borne by the central and state governments. In the initial days of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, it was made mandatory for all farmers, but later this rule was removed. Now farmers can get insurance under this scheme on their own free will. Appeal to avail benefits The last date for registration in Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana is 31 July 2023. In such a situation, an appeal is being made by the Agriculture Department to more and more farmers to take advantage of this scheme. The officials of the Agriculture Department said that it is very important to have crop insurance to protect the crops from risks. In order to provide security to the crops, the Central Government's Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme provide protection against the risks faced by the Kharif crop in the country. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, any farmer in the country can avoid the possible financial loss to the crops by contacting the officials of the agriculture department of their districts or by getting information about the state notification and getting the registration done before the last date of the scheme.
