Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov participated in the commissioning of INS Vikrant on 2 September and expressed his pride to be a part of it.

Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov participated in the commissioning of INS Vikrant on 2 September and expressed his pride to be a part of it. Prime Minister Narendra Modi commissioned the first indigenously designed and built aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant, at the Cochin Shipyard Limited in Kochi on September 2. It marks the significant progress of the Central Government towards self-reliance in the defense sector.

According to Alipov, the commissioning of India's first indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant shows that the country is rapidly moving towards becoming a self-reliant and major global power. Despite the current global difficulties and tensions, the Russian Ambassador said that Russia is very dedicated and enthusiastic about future cooperation between the two countries in trade, technology, production and other fields.

Alipov said, “It is a proud moment for India that they have built an indigenous flagship aircraft carrier. India is moving towards self-reliance and has shown that it is moving fast towards becoming a major global power. The world needs a super strong India."

Following the commissioning of INS Vikrant, Alipov tweeted pictures from the event and wrote, "Participated today by Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the commissioning of INS Vikrant. India's first indigenous aircraft carrier. A proud moment for the country and its people." Russia is proud to be a part of it. Jai Vikrant! Shano Varun!"

Vikrant was designed by the Indian Navy's in-house Warship Design Bureau (WDB) and built by Cochin Shipyard Limited, a public sector shipyard under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. It is the largest ship ever built in the maritime history of India.
