The slum dwellers of Delhi are about to get the keys to their new house. PM Modi is going to inaugurate 3024 flats on November 2. With the help of these flats, a sense of ownership and security will be created among all those people.
The slum dwellers will also get relief from the cold nights of Delhi. PM Narendra Modi is about to inaugurate new flats for slum dwellers in Delhi's Kalkaji. These flats will be given under the 'In-Situ Slum Rehabilitation' project. 3024 newly constructed EWS flats for rehabilitation will be inaugurated on 2nd November. PM Modi is going to hand over the keys of these flats to the beneficiaries in the landless camp in a program at Vigyan Bhawan.
The flat will give a sense of ownership and security
In-situ slum rehabilitation work is being carried out by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in 376 slum clusters to provide housing for all. The objective of the rehabilitation project is to provide a better and healthier living environment with proper facilities and amenities to the slum dwellers. By giving the flat, they will get ownership rights and they will also have a sense of security.
What is this project?
Let us tell you that the DDA has started three such projects in Kalkaji Extension, Jailorwala Bagh and Kathputli Colony. Under the Kalkaji Extension Project, in-situ rehabilitation of three slum clusters namely Landless Camp, Navjeevan Camp and Jawahar Shivir located at Kalkaji is being done in a phased manner. Under the first phase, 3024 EWS flats have been constructed at the vacant commercial center nearby. The slum site in the landless camp will be vacated by rehabilitating the eligible families of the landless camp in the newly constructed EWS flats. Thereafter, in the second phase, this vacant site will be used for rehabilitation of Navjeevan Camp and Jawahar Camp.
Flats have all facilities
Significantly, the first phase of this project has been completed and 3024 flats are ready. These flats have been constructed for about Rs 345 crore. All these are equipped with civic amenities, which include vitrified floor tiles, ceramic tiles, Udaipur green marble counter in the kitchen etc. Public facilities like public parks to electric sub-stations, sewage treatment plants, dual water pipelines, lifts for clean water supply, etc. are all available.
