Republic has accessed the CCTV footage of the clash, which shows a clash between two communities over bursting of firecrackers in the city's Panigate area during the incident. In the clip, over a dozen people can be seen pelting stones at another group, who were bursting crackers during Diwali festivities. Along with this, a person is also seen vandalizing a shop.


Sources close to the development told Republic that people were celebrating Diwali and bursting crackers. Then all of a sudden some people disrupted it, turning the festival into beatings and sabotage. The incident of assault took place at around 12.30 pm on Tuesday.


An eyewitness to the communal clash in Vadodara said, "These kids, they were lighting firecrackers and suddenly the street lights went off. Not only stones, but petrol bombs were also thrown on this side. They (the attackers) have come here, this is my house. You can see the marks on the walls. I live here alone, but luckily, all my relatives were here. They came running. They (relatives) had to come to save me. 10-15 people dared and opposed him."


Another eyewitness added,


"They had planned it thoroughly. They had planned to provoke people here and turn it into a riot. The entire area was jam-packed for the last three days during the Diwali festival."


Vadodara communal clash: 19 people detained


According to sources people were celebrating Diwali and bursting crackers. Suddenly beatings and sabotage started here. The incident happened on Monday night when a motorcycle parked nearby caught fire after a Diwali rocket fell. After this about 400 to 500 people gathered and started pelting stones. Later, the matter escalated to such an extent that several vehicles were set on fire, many shops were vandalized and street lights were switched off.


After getting the information, Vadodara Police reached the spot and started patrolling. Petrol bombs were thrown at the police during the search. In the video, miscreants can be seen throwing petrol bombs and attacking police vehicles. However, later the police managed to control the situation and detained 19 people based on the CCTV footage.
