Along with providing better facilities to the passengers, Indian Railways is taking a tough stand against those traveling without ticket. If you also have a habit of traveling in train without ticket, then be careful! Samastipur Railway Division has made a bumper recovery of Rs 12.5 crore by catching more than 1 lakh 74 thousand ticketless passengers from April to June in the current financial year (2025-26). This mega ticket checking campaign not only increased the revenue of the railways, but also created panic among those traveling without ticket. Result? The crowd of passengers has increased at the ticket counters, and people are now forced to follow the rules.

Mega Ticket Checking Campaign

Samastipur Railway Division has launched a special campaign against those travelling without ticket and with irregular tickets. Under this campaign, intensive ticket checking was done at major stations of the division such as Samastipur, Darbhanga, Jaynagar, Raxaul, Saharsa, and Bapudham Motihari. A special ticket checking team was formed on the instructions of Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Vinay Srivastava and under the leadership of ACM TC Rajesh Kumar. This team includes 233 ticket checkers and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel, who conducted a 'Kilabandi' campaign for 16 hours and caught the passengers without tickets.

In this campaign, methods like bus red ticket checking and railway magistrate checking were used. Its effect was so tremendous that from April to June 2025, the division recovered more than Rs 12 crore 50 lakh as fine. This is the biggest achievement of Samastipur Railway Division in this financial year, which broke all the old records. DRM Vinay Srivastava said that the purpose of this campaign is not only to increase revenue, but also to motivate passengers to follow the rules.

How was such a huge recovery made?

Samastipur Railway Division conducted an intensive ticket checking campaign on its various rail sections. During this, more than 1 lakh 74 thousand passengers were caught travelling without ticket or with irregular tickets. These included passengers who were travelling without ticket, without proper authority, or with wrong class ticket. The division especially intensified the checking in mail, express, and passenger trains, which created panic among those travelling without tickets.

The credit for the success of this campaign goes to the hardworking team of the division. 218 TTEs and other officials worked day and night to make this record possible. The special thing is that some TTEs did wonders by catching more than 100 ticketless passengers in a single day. Among them, employees like Rajesh Kumar, Lalan Paswan, Tuntun Rai, and Satveer Kumar were honored by DRM and Senior DCM Ananya Smriti by giving them a reward of Rs 4,000 each. Also, a collective reward of Rs 50,000 has been recommended for the entire team.

Awareness among passengers and crowd at ticket counters

The impact of this mega campaign was so tremendous that long queues of passengers were seen at ticket counters at stations like Samastipur, Darbhanga, Saharsa. People are now afraid of travelling without tickets, because if caught, they may have to pay a heavy fine. DRM Vinay Srivastava said that the aim of this campaign is to motivate passengers to travel with valid tickets. This not only increases the income of the railways, but also maintains discipline and transparency among the passengers.

Travel with a ticket

The Railway Division has appealed to the passengers to always travel with a valid and proper ticket. Traveling without a ticket is not only illegal, but it also causes huge losses to the Railways. The divisional administration has made it clear that such intensive ticket checking campaigns will continue in the future as well. If you are caught travelling without a ticket, you will not only have to pay a fine, but may also have to face legal action.

This achievement of Samastipur Railway Division has not only increased the revenue of the railways but has also boosted the morale of the checking staff. DRM Vinay Srivastava said that this campaign is a symbol of the efficiency and vigilance of the railways. In future also, the division will crack down on ticketless travellers with similar promptness. So next time when you travel by train, make sure to take a ticket, otherwise your number can also be included in those 1.74 lakh passengers.
