Actress Mandakini, who rose to fame with Ram Teri Ganga Maili, has shared the story of her controversial photo with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. She clarified that the photo was taken in Dubai and that she had not visited Dawood Ibrahim.


Mandakini stated that she was not invited by Dawood and that she had gone to Dubai for a show, after which she went to watch a cricket match where the photo was taken. She stated in an interview that she had no control over the speculation and rumors that followed the photo. She added that as an artist, she meets many people and does not differentiate between them. 


What did Mandakini say?


The actress said, "We have no control over what people say or write. An artist meets thousands of people, and to us, they're all equal. There were so many people there... I didn't know who to photograph and who not to photograph... We were there for a show. I wasn't invited by Dawood."


The photo later sparked controversy and numerous speculations. Mandakini said it had a devastating impact on her film career. She further added, "The controversy caused significant damage. Later, I learned that there needs to be a team to handle all this. I denied those rumors everywhere."

Rumors of an affair


After the 1993 Mumbai bombings, Dawood fled to Dubai. The police were after him, but when Mandakini and Dawood were seen together at a cricket match, the entire country was shocked. Rumors of their affair spread. Subsequently, the police questioned Mandakini about Dawood Ibrahim, the mastermind of the Mumbai attacks . However, Mandakini was later cleared in the case. After that, Mandakini began to distance herself from the don.

Mandakini rose to fame with her debut film, "Ram Teri Ganga Maili," in which she played the lead role and became one of the leading faces of Hindi cinema in the 1980s. Directed by Raj Kapoor, the film was a huge success and established Mandakini as a leading actress of that era.


Following the success of this film, Mandakini continued to work in Hindi cinema, appearing in over 75 films in her career. She also worked with many prominent actors such as Anil Kapoor, Mithun Chakraborty, and Govinda.
